Mexican cuisine was once our ‘favorite’ meal choice. A simple corn-for-flour tortilla substitution made it the easiest way to improvise gluten-free.
Recently though, 莱西’s dairy intolerance has forced an evolution in personal cravings. No longer are the days of deep-fried chewiness and cheesy goodness. Instead, we’ve declared a new authentic Mexican choice: “mariscos.”
Dishes tempt with seafood varieties, citrus marinades, and fresh herbs and vegetables. No flavors are missed, and there are only more to appreciate.
Mariscos Chihuahua (in Barrio Hollywood) delivers a newfound fondness for Mexican food.
The shared meal:
Plato de Ceviche
How it comes: Shrimp marinated in lime juice, tossed with fresh tomatoes, onions and cucumber, seasoned with cilantro and served with tostadas or chips.
Gluten FREEstyle version: With the exception of a shared fryer for the chips and tostadas, the dish is naturally gluten and dairy-free. We highly recommend accepting a side of mayonnaise for the tostadas – it sounds a little weird, but it marries the corn and ceviche combination in a delightful way.

How it comes: Three tacos, fish beer battered, topped with lettuce and Pico de Gallo salsa.
Gluten FREEstyle version: Three simple requests for your server, “Fish not fried, pan-seared please, with corn tortillas…thank you!”
Camarones al Mojo de Ajo
How it comes: Shrimp sautéed in house spices with chopped garlic, served over French fries with a house salad and rice.
Gluten FREEstyle version: No freestyle necessary….just eat!

- Camarones Rancheros – Shrimp sautéed with tomatoes, onions and green peppers served in a bowl with salad and rice.
莱西 & 仿麂皮 say:
Although cross-contamination is always something to be cautious of, Mariscos’ menu offers plenty of naturally gluten-free and dairy-free options. Shying away from items described as “breaded,” “fried” or “creamy” has made for some enjoyable feasts.
For the times that 莱西’s stomach felt uncomfortable, it was attributed to her overindulgence in the complimentary chips and salsa, not gluten!
